Winter has definitely arrived in the foothills of SC! It’s down right cold. A lot of my southern counterparts hate this weather, but I just love winter weather. I love the cold, crisp air that kisses my cheeks when I walk outside.
I’m a minimalist when it comes to decorating for the holidays. I have a few things for fall and the winter holiday’s that I put out, but that’s about it. I try to make a lot of my home decor not because it’s better for the planet and less waste, which is a great reason, but because I just like the way it looks much better than anything I could find at a store. That’s not to say all my decorations are handmade from natural materials but I’m working on adding more and more each year.
In my opinion, home decorations are really for us. Because we lived in a cul-de-sac in the city house and now we live on a long country road a ways out from town, we just don’t get many uninvited house guests or traffic. The way we decorate our home helps us to feel the seasons and reminds us that they are always changing.
With winter in full effect and a little early for us this year. I was inspired to create these Tree Branch Candle Holders. I’ve seen a few different versions all over the place and knew with just a quick walk in the woods and a 101 lesson in using our chop saw I’d get the results I was looking for.
I’m thrilled with how these turned out! They are going to be an excellent part to my holiday table centerpiece and best of all…it was free, all natural, and I even got educated and experienced using the chop saw! Win-win-win. And let’s not forget, if I get tired of them or no longer want to use them, into the fire pit or compost bin they go. No waste!
